Read moreThe Girls on the Run and Girls on Track programs donated 15 pet beds to the Humane Society of Iredell County on December 22. The girls made the beds by hand and donated them as part of their community service project.
Girls on the Run is a nonprofit, 12-week program for third- to eighth-grade girls that stresses self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. Girls on Track extends the program to high-school-age girls.

Greta Anderson, secretary of the Humane Society of Iredell, received a check for $1,000 from Kim Atkins, executive director of the Mooresville Downtown Commission. The funds were proceeds from the October 11, 2011 Mooresville Wiener Race in Mooresville.
Dachshunds competed in races and vied for cutest and best dressed honors.
A check for $1,000 was also presented to Patrice Reynolds, executive director of Friends of the Animals.

The Interact Club at Lake Norman High School hosted a food drive this fall and solicited 125 lbs from fellow students and members of the Lake Norman HS community. A warm thank you goes out to these students and their club advisor, Amanda Roberts. HSI is truly grateful for this effort!
